Build-A-Bar: The Drinks
Judging by social media it is somewhat apparent that moderate alcohol consumption at home during this pandemic may have become the norm. Joking aside, I do fashion a pre or post dinner drink at home myself, but I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that in the City one can only acquire alcohol through specific liquor licensed stores. As the pandemic hit NYC it has not been very practical to visit such stores and thus such endeavour has to wait until the whole ordeal is over.
Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle- first stop post pandemic
However, pre-pandemic we had acquired the necessary to entertain ourselves making Negronis, Martinis and G&Ts. We also always have a medium sherry (I love Osbourne's) and a ruby port at hand (Cockburn's is my preferred). Canned/bottled tonic water is also always stocked up. Here's what I currently have in my makeshift home bar;
Whilst we can fashion a couple of drinks through the ones I have at hand my current setup is missing some essentials, and thus my post pandemic shopping list will most certainly include:
Lillet Blanc- to make Bond's vespers.
Grey Goose Vodka- Not vodka's biggest fan but it is essential in a number of cocktails.
Diplomatico Rum- for mean mojitos.
I'm also intrigued by Seedlip as a brand, producing distilled alcohol free spirits.
No Bourbon, Rye or Scotch will ever make an appearance on my list.
And there goes my first ever alcohol wish list.
What do you consider an essential in your home bar? Do you have any recommendations to add to the list?
